The wedding dress has been purchased, the wedding colors have been decided and the bridesmaids have bought their gowns. That means the gentlemen are up next!
At this point the “how do I a make the bridal party look cohesive” question arises. Depending on your style, there are many different options that achieve this. Here are just a few of my favorites:
Option 1: Matching the color of the gowns to the tuxedo accessories
As seen the photo above by Audrey Rose Photography, the tie, vest and pocket square are a similar color to the bridesmaids dresses. This is fairly easy to achieve if you are able to get a swatch of the dress color from the designer and/or if you order from the same location.
There is also the option to pick a pattern that incorporates a variety of shades of the color of the bridesmaids dresses. Therefore, the groomsmen could wear a solid colored vest with patterned neckwear or a patterned vest with solid neckwear.
Option 2: Matching the color of the gowns, AND making the groom stand out
A great way to make the groom stand out, or any other member of the party, is to change their neckwear. As seen in this photo by Caitlin Gerres Photography, the groom and father have a patterned tie that incorporates the colors of the bridesmaids dresses as well as the ties worn by the other groomsmen.
You can also change the groom’s vest and pocket square. Another option is to have them all wearing the same color or pattern and the groom wears a bow tie and the groomsmen wear ties.
Option 3: Matching the bridal party by using a variety of shades of one color
This option may be my favorite. In this picture by Dragon Studios, the bridal party is wearing different shades of gray. I love the use of their accent color in the bridesmaids jewelry and in the groomsmen’s ties.
Option 4: Matching using the same or similar pattern
This option is for the bride who has her girls in a pattern and wants to incorporate it in the groomsmen’s accessories. By ordering extra fabric, neckwear and/or pocket squares can be made to match. If there isn’t an option to order extra fabric, finding a pattern similar, as seen in the photo below, works just as good.
These are just a few of the options I have seen work. There’s so many more ways to match the bridal party.
